Japan supermarket sales rose 2.6% in July

Supermarket sales rose 2.6 percent in July from a year previously, a market body stated Friday.

Sales at 10,823 supermarket shops run by 56 firms amounted to ¥1.08 trillion ($10 billion), according to information launched by the Japan Chain Stores Association.

By item, same-store sales of food climbed up 4.5 percent and also those of furniture expanded 14.4 percent, while clothes sales dropped 13.4 percent.
